Description

Yes, a posting of the same image; except, after posting on another site where constructive criticism is offered to extend one's knowledge. If you compare this one to my last, you'll see that the strata is much more real. Also, I had not noticed that some of the dry grass was floating ...another correction I made. So come on guys, pick the images apart and offer some ideas! And, this what I've come to expect - constructive criticism - so that I may learn more about Terragen 2. So, lets get some of that from the crowd here at Renderosity. Those comments like beautiful, excellent, wonderful, etc. don't really help at all. Look closely at the image; tear it apart and come up with some ideas for improvement. Finally, a message to Renderosity. Please consider a second Terragen Gallery; one for Terragen Classic; and, one for Terragen 2. The two programs are quite a bit different. Bob

There are many subtle details in the foreground. Agree for the strata ...

You've done a tremendous job on this one Bob and looks very realistic except for one detail and that's the shrubbery in the background. Looks as though someone has planted them neatly in rows and evenly spaced. This caught my eye immediately, found this happening to me as well when I first started using Terragen 2 and also in Vue. Never went far enough in Terragen to solve this but in Vue it was a matter of tweaking some of the settings for slope/altitude range and fuzziness (top & bottom. Not sure if you have a setting for variable density or a way of working it. Hope this helps you out. Jim

Thanks Jim. One way to solve this issue; and, I agree with you - is to utilize the Painted shader with an additional population of the same plant. And, painting those distant areas with the plants with smaller spacing. I should have done this. This is the kind of critique I like. Wish more folks would offer ideas like this. Thanks.

I've been watching your art because I'm interested to do some desert scenes myself working with bryce. I have a long way to go before I have your skill and Knowledge. I agree that we all need some constructive criticism. I can't say anything about your technique because I work in bryce but I will say something in a general way about your composition here. All the weight in this piece is on the right side and there is nothing leading your eye through the left. Because of this it doesn't hold my attention for long. It's a shame, the lighting and atmosphere are terrific and has the potential of being a dramatic and moody work. Thanks for asking for comments.

Nice lighting and dispersion of the plants. I like that strata and will be looking for the first you talked about. As to the floating grass, well it is probably just high grass ;^)

I'm a little slow getting here and I don't comment all that much anymore, but here goes: Heeding other's advice and criticism is the best way to improve. TG2's strata is way too perfect to be realistic, so yeah you have to do something to break it up. How about a little more ruggedness in the terrain, like outcrops? Attaching another power fractal, smaller scale will work, maybe. That and the voronoi cracks thing is pretty good, too. Otherwise, lighting, atmo and object distribution is spot on! Seeing this has inspired me to get a project going - perhaps I'll be sharing it here soon if all goes well.

first class image! the distribution has already been mentioned, I love the fore-ground and the back-ground, but the middle in the shadow is just too blurry, not that I'd know how to fix that. Don't know if increasing exposure in the camera would do the trick or if it would be worth doing a second image with more sun and then blending the images in PS. Anyway, excellent scene man!
