I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

First off, I think the color and texture and displacements are spot on. This is one cool cliff. The pines and the tree to the right give my eye mixed signals though - when I see the big tree the pines look too small, when I look at the pines, the large tree looks too large, so pick the size that helps the best with whatever scale you wish to represent. I like the clouds and the background, but the image is hitting me a little flat, which might get better if the atmo was more dense (but I could be wrong about that one). I love the way the plants are sitting on the ledges - great job young feller!!!

Excellent strata terrain.....nice work.

Beutiful work...one of the best yet that I have seen come out of TG2. Did you need to populate and place all of the pines and such manually?

Killer terrain and POV, Bob- just AWEsome, and I like the atmosphere/natural light and dusty look. Excellent and inspiring.

I think it is an awesome work, the strata looks so real that I have not seen that there is something with the trees. If it disturb , it is easy to correct it the trunk of the big tree must be only near to the viewer. Than you have the feel this tree is on another rock where the viewer stand. Excellent job Bob!!!!!

I could take in all the subtle details of the rock face for a long time- the coloring, strata and blending of stones is so real. Great POV looking into the valley beyond.
