He said, with his voice choked up,"The doctors did everything they could. She had a heart defect.It's not your fault." She couldn't speak or scream. Back when her electronic voice could be overloaded by emotion, she was mute. She reached for him, with tears running down her face. He held her while she wept, her shoulders heaving in anguish and pain. "MOMMY! MOMMY, where are you? I miss you! I hear you! HELP ME!" Cloud was so pale when she was born, that TWL HAS to call her youngest 'Cloud'. She was sickly and weak and she KNEW something was wrong. The best doctors were for humans only. Telepaths,Scavs,Trow and Deva were the lowest of the low on the Flying Cities. She couldn't get any post-natal care for her little girl and it broke her heart. When Cloud died, she wanted to scream as loud as she could to call her back to life. "NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! DON'T LEAVE ME! MY DAUGHTER! COME BACK! DON'T LEAVE ME! COME BACK!" Her heart broke with grief so strong, she couldn't give voice to it. She reached out in her sleep to another grief-stricken soul. For an instant, she could feel the body of the little girl who flowed against her, like a tide of pure need. The love of the lost child had a purity and pain that TWL had mirrored in her own soul. She responded with a lost life-time of love. She could feel the hot tearful radiance of a pure love that defied TWL's imagination. She opened her eyes and was sure it would all fade to cold darkness, that would slip away while she wept from the loss that had always had stalked her just out of her sight, but always dogged her steps. She saw light. Pure radiant light like a small sun. A light borne of a lost and condemned world lost in the dim recesses of time. She was shocked, and froze. "Mommy! What's wrong? Where's my body? I can't touch you!" TWL opened her mouth to speak and just wept. She knew what she saw,now. It was Starshine, The lost child-like spirit that Lime had pulled back to this universe from a Boneyard world, and had found Sunshine, who had become friends. "Starshine? Is that really your name?" "If you want, mommy. I...don't remember. Do you know Sunshine? She's my only friend. NO ONE can hear me! Or Understand! I'M SO LONELY! I CAN'T TOUCH ANYONE! WHERE IS MY BODY?" Then TWL could see a ghostly body around the light. TWL knew she had powers she didn't know. She tried with all her heart to touch the girl and said,"Let me try to touch you." TWL sat up and held out her arms. She reached out and could feel the contours of a small body. Warm,soft but shaking. Starshine flowed into Tall White Lady's arms. The door annunciator chimed, and TWL lost her grip. Starshine lost her humanoid look and resumed her glowing ball shape. She could hear Rose shouting her name in the background as she tried frantically to grasp Starshine again. Rose overrode the door-controls and ran in as TWL made grabbing motions at Starshine. TWL shouted,"I could touch her! Just for a second!" Rose said,"Oh, no. What did you just say?" TWL asked,"What do you mean? I could touch her! With my hands!" Sunshine ran in, followed by Toxic. TWL shouted,"I TOUCHED HER! What is wrong with you?" Toxic said, "Tall Lady is chiming! Like Starshine!" Sunny chimed,"HEY! How do you do that? You TOUCHED HER?" TWL exclaimed, "YES! just like this!" She reached out and put her hands on Sunny,"Exactly like that." Rose said, "You're not chiming anymore. Just after touching Sunny! The ancient Abellian system predates the Four Sisters system by a few billion years. It must preempt our system!" Starshine tinkled like sad bells and drifted out of the room.
