Description

The Yash... The Yashica FX 7, bought it for college, a couple lifetimes ago.... the instructor said we should buy the K 1000 because that's what he used and understood it. I came to class with The Yas, the instructor asked "Why did you buy that thing?" My answer was simple "Because everybody else has the K 1000..." over the years, I've shot dancers ... lithe, delicate, powerful, focussed, beautiful, wrestlers, boxers, fencers, caber-tossers... I've shot musicians, singers, actors, directors, audience... I've shot the young, the old, the famous, and the forgotten... I've shot joy, despair, I've shot babies taking their first steps, politicians desperately trying to hang onto their jobs.... I've shot eagles, coyotes, gophers, and wolves... it's been my companion at the tale end of Katrina, and the numerous trips to strange places.... and yes, my digital cameras will hold hundreds of HQ images on a single 1 GB SD card, as opposed to a couple dozen on a strip of film... but there is something physically satisfying about the mechanical "T-chak" of the shutter closing...moreso than that little electronic "Neep" you get with digital... it's a thing... so, gonna dust of Thge Yash, get some film and get back to basics... or to quote Paul Simon... Kodachrome... give me the night's bright colours, give me the dreams of summer, makes all the world a sunny day....oh yeah comments welcome, please enjoy!

Great shot and, yes, I graduated to SLR's with a veritable Yashica and lasted for many years until the shutter finally gave up the ghost!

Still alive and kicking I see, but not all those people you shot...hehe ! Maybe they can change the new digital camera beep sound to the classic "T-chak", I know you can do it on mobile phones, so it shouldn't be to hard for the boffins to add another feature like this. A bit of Industrial espionage, my fist camera was a Pentax SP 1000, I wonder if it was made before or after the Yashica K 1000 ? Anyhoo, neat and crusty capture ! ~Cheers~

sorry bro but cameras are alien things to me. i was never able to do decent photos ,you could give me the best equipment on the market and i would come up with shitty shots hehehe. i really have no talent there, but maybe i am not concentrating enough. might sound strange but only since i do art?? myself i see the pictures/photos different, for me before a photo was a photo and an art image was an image never saw anything deep until +-april/may 2008.crazy hehehe. but i am learning.

Terrific camera Colin! My first was a Zenith, the light meter didn't work, but still took some ok shots..Even developed the negs and printed the photographs (black and white only) in a makeshift dark room. Great fun.
