Description

Horace, in his Odes invited: '... bewise, strain the wine, and scale back your long hopes,/to a short period. While we speak, envious time will have {already} fled/Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the next.' In a more hard-nosed spirit, the English idiom to be 'led down the primrose path' suggests that one is being deceived or led astray, often by a hypocrite. The primrose path also refers to someone living a life of luxury apparently linking primroses to libertine indulgence. An early appearance of the phrase in print occurs in Shakespeare, when Ophelia accuses Laertes of hypocrisy: 'Do not, as some ungracious pastors do, Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven, Whiles, like a puffed and reckless libertine, Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads And recks not his own rede.'(Hamlet, Act I, Scene III) Variations of the phrase, such as 'primrose way' and 'primrose lane' are known. In Macbeth, the Porter speaks of 'the primrose way to the everlasting bonfire'. Novelists and screenwriters, however, usually agree that heaven is a drafty, boring place, so it isn't a surprise that so many people prefer hotter, sexier climates. The saucy fame probably comes from the fact that the name Primula for primrose (the Latin feminine diminutive of primus, meaning first, prime), applied to flowers that are among the first to open in spring. And it was connected with the rutting and tupping period. So seize the day and let's enjoy it. Thank you for your kind comments.

Fiori semplici ma dai colori sempre piacevoli da vedere : forse e' per questo che sono tra i primi a spuntare. ( anche noi , nella fotografia , cerchiamo sempre di cogliere l'attimo: c'e' sempre un solo momento che e' il migliore )

"Love is a rose but you'd better not pick it, only grows when it's on the vine. Handful of thorns and you know you've missed it, lose your love when you say the word Mine..." Nitty Gritty Dirt Band cool capture!

Beautiful! I love your framing of them in the larger blossoms! Great quotes and info! Mark Twain had some very funny and pointed comments about man's ideas about heaven in his writing, "Letters From The Earth"
