My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

There was always just one more door and that's "what matters"!!! lol
babuci
Another great picture of the huge arch build in with glass.

Obviously not aesthetic balance or design integrity! I find my brain trying to figure out how it was actually MEANT to look when it was made! A great pic of a spot of architectural vandalism. And the words just make it even better.

A very strange door indeed. Its like it doesnt fit the archway. Amazing and i like the sign. Makes one think once more :-)

Did you get to view the door from the other side? I'm sure the light is marvelous. Great capture.

Most amazing door and stellar image Tara! It is a very special entrance and your magic touch is clearly visible! Well done! Sorry - had another mad weekend! :)

If you blow it up and look, I don't think the doors were always there. I think it was a set of windows. The doors were an after thought, perhaps they divided the building. Very, very cool shot.

Yeah, Chicago has this strange affection for not-exactly-balanced stuff...it's everywhere here. I think this was designed by someone with an arch fetish, but I have to admit that it's impressive. Behind that door (and the "What Matters" advert for Roosevelt University is also the stairway used in the Kevin Kostner film The Untouchables. The scene in which there was a shoot out as a baby carriage zoomed down the stairs was filmed just beyond that door, at around 1am so that everyone would be gone by the time classes started the following day. I love this shot. You make Chicago look so impressive. Mayor Daley owes you a debt of gratitude...but it's da Mayor: he'll probably just offer a subtle bribe instead.

Could be a poster, wonderful image!

hmmm, what does matter; I'll have to get back to you on that:). I really like the lines here, curves and right angles go well together. Also, I'm diggin' the reflections in the windows. A well composed shot.

Magnificent, expansive archway...love your collection of Chicago doorways. So varied. Good reminder slogan on the glass...I ought to tape that on my mirror:)
