Description

If I'm not mistaken, the large island in the background is Cypress Island, up in the San Juans in Washington State. Some friends and I went out looking for eagles and tundra swans back in January, and we stopped at the beach just as it was getting dark. I love the way the sky turns slowly to dark blue, with lighter shades near the horizon that get darker as you look up. I'm told this is called the "blue hour" and it's one of my favorite times of the day.

I love the Blue Hour too, but it's harder to see when big, giant skyscrapers are blocking it out. There is that magic moment, just before dawn and right at dusk, when one world seems to be switching from one gear to another, but there's some kind of grace in the interim and it would be very nice to see the Blue Hour in a place where there actually is a Blue Hour. This touches me deeply. Very nice!
