Description

Captured 2/26/10, early in the morning, within walking distance of my hackneyed hovel. Considerably better viewed full size. These guys were a relatively friendly bunch because they thought that I had brought them their morning repast, but difficult to photograph because of their somewhat sharp, short, and unpredicatable movements. I would like to capture them in brilliant sunshine on a midday shoot. Postworked to bring them out of the shadows. Toodles, thankx for the visit, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

I love chickens, even though they're not very bright and, like ducks, inherently silly. They are hard to photograph, unless you can hypnotize them into sitting still for you, which is relatively easy given their small brain size! I do love their beautiful colourful feathers too...I didn't know you had farms in your area!

When I was in England I went to The Cotswold Farm Park, which is the “Home of Rare Breed Conservation” It was begun in the 1960s to try to save breeds of farm animals that were traditional to the UK, but dying out for various reasons mostly to do with commercial practices. I saw some really wild looking chickens, and I've been interested in them visually, since. These are wonderful captures! My favorites are #s 1 & 3. #1 looks like it has some intelligence and # 3 looks totally spacey. Probably they are both pretty spacey. # 2 looks like a bored CEO in a meeting, # 4 just saw her husband with another woman and the two in # 5 look like lost tourists. Excellent and fun shots!

I just love these birds, but cannot keep them where I live because of my townie neighbours.
