Description
Not quite spring yet at the Hollow when this was taken a couple of weeks ago. It was one of those warmer days, so drove out and spent the day. Not much green to be seen, just the fir trees, and bits of grasses coming up here and there. You can see the fields just past the wild raspberry canes. Murphy is looking back to see where I am. And yes, LOL, there are pictures without the dogs .. somewhere.
I downloaded Paint.NET v3.5.4 a couple of days ago, have been playing with it so haven't been around much. Lot's of catching up to do. Paint.NET is a free open source program, and so far I'm loving it. I took this photo into it, duplicated it, did a pencil effect with it, then reduced the opacity of it to let the colors of the first layer show through. Took it into PSP and messed around with it some more. I think I like the results. Some honest opinions and thoughts on what I might have done to make it better would be appreciated.
Many thanks for the wonderful and thoughtful comments on the previous post, and for the faves. Gonna be starting to catch up with you all little by little, thank you for your patience, and I'm ever so grateful for you support.

You might want to try and put a layer above the pencil sketch and set it to color if that option is available in Paint.net. Then you would be able to get more of the colors while also getting more the sketch effect. This turned out great. I look forward to seeing what you do next.

It's a beautiful treatment....almost an ultra-realism, as though done with a fine pen. The only thing I think I would have done is leave more of the b/w layer over the surroundings...masking the color more....and erasing it over Murphy to make him stand out. (Oh, and maybe a little fairy hidden in the twigs.) There's another program that has a free trial you might want to try....Topaz Adjust. It's got a bunch of quick effects that you can use layers and opacity to moderate. It's not much to buy...I liked it enough to drop $50 on it.....topazlabs.com.

Hey how you doing? Great piece of work. I love the effects too. I think it is great to mix up different programs and experiment. Thanks for your visits and comments. I am doing better. Planning to come back more in a few weeks. Still more things happening that need my attention. Mahalo and have a great weekend.

Murphy looks confident and happy and so aware of starring in that photo. What a cutie! You take pictures without dogs? But why? LOL I know what you mean. Even though I only have my little cell phone camera to work with at present my main topics are cats, dogs, and the wildlife outside or a mixture of all three. Anyway, you do wonderful photography as well as your other talents displayed here. This is such a great shot of the groundcover at the hollow. I love all those roots and sticks contrasted against the pines and canes. Murphy's coat is the perfect color for this photo, too. Give my regards to Murphy. : )
