Description

Captured 3/13/10 at the Los Angeles Zoo, in Los Angeles, California. Just one of several long distance shots of a silverback gorilla, one of our close cousins. Was tempted to do a collage but didn't want to distract from this one. He's definitely worth a ZOOM. So, what is this big guy thinking? Perhaps, "how did I ever get into this mess, trapped here in the wilds of civilization, the object of awe, curiosity or derision every day by that slack-jawed bunch out there, some taunting and whistling, or just gawking and/or holding up those little square boxes at me with those funny clicking sounds." "But, on the other hand, things could be worse...I do get three squares a day, my own digs, with my own female so I can hanky panky around and raise a family. Not so bad, but I would still like a flat panel cable tv and a computer...." --------------------- Gorillas are the largest of the living primates. They are ground-dwelling and predominantly herbivorous. They inhabit the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and (still under debate as of 2008) either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is 98%-99% identical to that of a human, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Gorillas live in tropical or subtropical forests. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200-4,300 meters (7,200-14,100 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia. A great shot. Actually I don't think he is thinking, I think he is reacting to a cough and being polite and covering his mouth !!!

"To be or not to be ..." or "I wonder if they've forgotten to get my lunch?" Nice shot!

willpee: I don't agree. If he was trying to cover a cough his fist would be lower down. So he is thinking.

He could be checking his breath for odor...but yes, most likely he's pondering deep thoughts. Excellent capture of this big guy!

He is thinking of, does he do a good job pretend he is thinking so we can have a good guessing play on rendo what he is thinking about...lol. Great shot Harry. I been a zoo a while ago to capture this majestic animal. They not sit around and just 'thinking' they running and moving and eating, fighting. Not a good condition to snap a great picture of them. Yours truly a great shot.

Terrific shot, Harry. They are certainly very interesting and intelligent animals, aren't they? PS In reference to my post....I have never learned to use the cloning tool...but I bet this guy probably could.

Think this guy sat next to me in Biology:-) Fascinating...you know me, as much as I like your collages...I still like a single picture to concentrate upon. You've got this guy from a good POV...he's well lit and the detail of his coat is easy to see in detail. Well done.

What a perfect title! Works really well and you are right to to take away from the single image by doing a collage.. What lens size do you use? Well done.. Rob

"Hmmm...She said she liked it when I jumped up and down and screamed in her face. Did she mean it, or was she just being nice?" Handsome fellow and great capture! He does look very contemplative. I like the sunlight and shadows on the rock and gorilla.
