Description

Photographs and memories All the love you gave to me Somehow it just can't be true That's all I've left of you This is a photo of my Dad, who passed away a year ago April 1st. My mom sent me a copy of this photo in a Christmas package this year, and well it was the greatest gift she could have sent since I have missed him so much. Also in the photo is James Cash Penney who was the founder of the JC Penney's department stores which he began in 1912 in Kemmerer, Wyoming. My father worked as a store manager for the company for 38 years. The first store my dad started at was located in Los Angeles, so on occasion he got to meet different celebrities, and among a few others, I can remember him sharing stories about Bob Eubanks for those that don't remember he was the host of the original Newlywed game show, and he was close in age to my dad, and they shared the same first name, as well as funny and charming personalities, he became a regular customer there and would only go to my dad for help, or as my dad put it to harass him, lol. It was always fun to hear his stories. I had this scanned and I added the framing. Notice the old camera case towards the front of the photo, I wonder what type of camera they used to take this photograph with back then . By the way my dad is the tall one on the left. Amazing how quickly a year passes, Dad I miss you ~ Thanks for your comments to my last post...and a Happy Easter weekend to everyone. thumb_2037792.jpg

TCG: HELLO on this EASTER SUNDAY! Photographs & Memories, indeed. Old JIM CROCE hit song I ENJOY MUCH. GREAT pic and narrative of your beloved father. I lost mine in 2000. I too have old U.S. Army pics and his days of softball playing where as a kid I watched him in awe and later followed in his footsteps. I'll leave you and others with what you and I and MANY others already think: "HONOR THY FATHER & THY MOTHER". GOOD HEALTH, PEACE, MANY GOOD MEMORIES to last THIS earthly lifetime, KIND SOUL. My BEST always, TallPockets/brian.

It is wonderful to have the old photo, such a great present from your mom! Once the pain of losing someone dulls a little, it is the stories and memories of them that stay with us the most and what I cherish the most. I'm very glad you have this to share.

That's why photographs are so important, they tell of the past and are factual. Nobody can deny this, proof of another era gone by. great presentation Lynell - hope you are having a niceEaster-break yourself. BB

I remember you telling me about him. He was a very handsome man. The first anniversary is tough but time will, hopefully, soften things. Thank you for sharing your father with us. Tell your children and grandchildren about your parents. Let them know who they were for as long as we speak about them a part of them lives. I hope things are good with you and your recovery is going well.

I think photography is the one defining tool of culture, it allows common individuals t capture a slice of history... and you are far from common. my Dad passed away in August 1998... over his lifetime, he'd taken about ten thousand pictures... the last year and a half, I'd taken time to digitize all the pictures, prints, slides... negatives... it was an archive project for the family, for my sibs, and their kids..... during the project, I saw images that I hadn't seen in decades... how soon time slips away... this is a stunning image and story... stunning...
