Description

A Captain's Launch surveys the icy moon of a gas giant. The Captain's Launch is a short-range shuttle that is standard on all Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy vessels of cruiser class or larger. They are intersystem craft capable of traveling within a star system, but do not have faster-than-light capabilities. The Captain's Launch is designated specifically for use by a ship's commanding officer, and for the use of Protectorate diplomats and flag officers. It is faster than most shuttles and well-armored, and also stocked with amenities such as wide, leather reclining seats, a wetbar and well-stocked food dispenser, as well as excellent environmental controls. It is lightly armed with one laser pulse cannon on a swivel mount under the nose, more for use as a standoff weapon than for actual sustained combat. Receiving your first Captain's Launch is a fairly big deal in the Stellar Navy. By tradition, captains generally name their first Launch, and then keep that same vehicle throughout their career, taking it with them from one command to the next. Officially, these are military vehicles that belong to the people of the Terran Protectorate. However, the launches are usually "assigned" to retiring flag officers of Commodore rank or higher as "consultant service vehicles" which allows them to be serviced free by the Stellar Navy. Better than a gold watch any day.

Great rocket flare; but the landscape's POV is wonderful!--also the lighting. I like EVERYthing about this one.

"Better than a gold watch any day". Ha ha, made me laugh anyway. Nice image, gives a sense of size and emptiness to the landscape.
