Description

First I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome back. There were a few people that joined this series/trek at the last few postings. Since it seems politically incorrect (for some strange reason) to go back through some ones gallery. Some of the unique formations in this series may not be seen. So having said that, I decided to remove this photo from my first postings on this series and as it so happens the earliest postings in my gallery. Mentioning the later as this photo only received one comment. To which I would like to thank Bimm3d for that one comment. For those that missed the first parts to this series I dubbed this formation "The Swirl". It is a name keeping with the sea motif of the formation that put this area in the spot light "The Wave". Should mention "The Wave" is the only formation that officially has a name. I once asked a geologist at the Bureau of Land Management why the sea motif title and learned that the sandstone here is petrified sand dunes. Well I better hit the road. Taking the kids to Yosemite NP today.

Learn something new everyday. I had no clue that sand dunes could petrify. But I'm not a geologist either.lol Wonderful pic and info.

What a beautiful place. There is quite a bit of noise in the sky, but nothing photoshop wouldn't fix.

Spectacular image. The cloudy sky really adds to the picture. Very well done although the formation in the left background makes me think of roast beef.

This is beautiful! I'm very glad you reposted. Beautiful as Yosemite is, this place fascinates me. I think I'll be heading back in time a bit before I join you in Yosemite. Amazing to think of the sand turning to stone. Wonderful colors and swirls! The one in the back makes me think of a novelty container with a lid. Beautifully shaped, colored and swirled stone, terrifically enhanced by the cloud cover. Stunning!
