Description

Namibia 2010 One of our desert trips was to the reknowned Spitzkoppe approximately 100km from Henties Bay. None of us has visited these mountains before and we were gobsmacked! Between my brother and I we probably shot 1500 images in a couple of hours. The next couple of days I'll post some of mine. This was taken at the Western entrance of this conservation area. I saw the nest and thought it would make a nice image! For those that are interested, here is some Wiki info: The Spitzkoppe between Usakos and Swakopmund is also described as the "Matterhorn of Namibia". It rises to an altitude of about 1800 metres and is situated in an endless, dry plain. The island of mountains can be seen from far away. The granite massif, which is part of the Erongo Mountains, was created by the collapse of a gigantic volcano more than 100 million years ago and the subsequent erosion, which exposed the volcanic rock, granite. San (Bushman) paintings can be found in various places, many in the "Bushman Paradise" under an overhanging rock wall. Thank you for your valued comments and favs on my upload of yesterday - "Welwitchia mirabilis." Stay well! Hugs, Carin Be sure to visit the April Forum Challenge. "Less is More"

Wow, very different from anything I've seen or experienced. The information on how rhis was formed is fascinating. Excellent composition...particularly with the featured bird's nest. Looking forward to seeing more of your half of 1500. LOL

The visual of life in a harsh barren land is very cool. Reminds us that nature will not be stopped and life WILL go on.

For natural desert rats such as myself Namibia would be paradise. This is a beautifully composed photo of a feature of the area I never knew existed. I so want to climb that peak...hot work, but imagine the view!

1500 images? Are you sure that's enough...LOL. I feel I'm gone into overkill with a mere 475. Cool rich colors and textures, and quite an imposing peak, on display here, Carin; the bird's nest and tree to the left adds depth to the composition.

Talk about a nest with a view...I'd build one there too! What an image and I love the POV...it makes me feel so small! Great color too! The more I see of your Namibia shots the more I want to visit there! This is stunning, simply marvelous!
