Description
The clematis vines wintered well. Ten days ago I wondered if they were still alive. Several warm 80 degree days, a little water, and now they burgeon.
In the upper pic you can see the pointy bud straight at you (low center), and the stages of opening to the full bloom (right of center - that blossom is 5.0 inches across).
Notice how the petals come out wrinkled and are decidedly light purple.
The only special treatment these vines received (potted in large plastic tub with drain holes) was tossed banana skins - maybe 20 - after last years petals fell.
