Description

The Château Frontenac was named in honor of Louis de Buade, Count of Frontenac, who was governor of the colony of New France from 1672 to 1682 and 1689 to 1698. It was designed by American architect Bruce Price and was one of a series of "château" style hotels built for the Canadian Pacific Railway company, at the end of the 19th and the start of the 20th century. The Château was built next to the historic Citadel and the Plains of Abraham. Frontenac had begun construction of the Citadel at the end of the 17th century. The hotel is perched atop a tall cape overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, thus giving a spectacular view for several miles. The building is the most prominent feature of the Quebec City skyline and is considered the heart of old Quebec City. There are 618 guestrooms and suites. In 1953 this hotel was used as the filming location for the Alfred Hitchcock's drama I Confess, with Montgomery Clift and Ann Baxter as main stars. It holds the Guinness World Record of "The most photographed hotel in the world". Taken with a film camera in the late 1980s and later scanned. Some information from Wikipedia. Excellent Dana. Always good to see old film shots brought back to life digitally. Didn't know the history...but have seen the hotel many times in photographs.

Off-the-chart POV, clarity, lighting and textural effects in this remarkable capture of the remarkable structure, Dana, plus super scanning! Mine would come out blurry. Reminds me something I'd see at Disneyland/Disneyworld.

This is stunning! I love the light in this too, the way the bright day really highlights the architectural features of this truly magnificent pile of stone. WOW! It's a bit much for me, but I'd definitely live there if I were the rich and decadent sort. This is super.
