Description

I believe that almost everybody is fascinated by gargoyles, and I am no exception. The gargoyles on the facade of the cathedral of Saint Vitus in Prague are particularly intriguing: they are not only statues of fantastic animals and monsters, but also people. This one is the first of two I especially liked: my photographic eye was suddenly taken by a POV where the saint seems to look sternly at the rude peasant from his upper (in every sense) position. The peasant's open mouth not only vomits rain every now and then, but it looks as if he is sticking his tongue out to the faithful beneath. Saint Vitus's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and the seat of the Archbishop of Prague. Located within the Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings, this cathedral is an excellent example of Gothic architecture and is the biggest and most important church in the country. Thank you for your kind comments.

Scary thought - in regards to the 'sickening' bit, as long as it is water ! classic style & image, BB

I like the angle of this photo, especially since Sv. Vitus is so hard to photograph...you can't really get far enough from it to get it, but that's Prague Castle for you! I remember this guy. It's funny, on my third day in Prague, I saw this guy in action: his stream was a bit thin and nearly irregular, I guess the biggest purge was done and he was just...well...drooling. It was raining and I was on a rather soaked tour of the city with fellow ESL-instructor trainees and a few expatriate guides. This picture brings back those memories, as well as memories from a later time, spent wandering around Prague, eating klobasa and drinking becherovka, or marveling at the stunning architecture that all of the native seemed not to notice. I love the textures here and the way you caught that particular Prague Castle color. This is great. It makes me all nostalgic, but in a good way

Quite a neat dynamic between the two characters, I expect that's what the artist intended. Beautiful shot.

I love them too and can be quite happy looking at an individual and seeing their detail and expression. But here you have seen and captured much more. The wonderful interaction between the two is excellently captured and described. Superb composition, texture and detail! One of the best pictures of gargoyles I've seen! Masterfully done!
