Description
This is the most widely distributed Swallowtail in North America. Their wingspan can be as much as 5" or so. They are very similar in appearance to the Western Tiger Swallowtail.
The good folks at BugGuide gave me a positive ID on this one and they indicated that it was a male. I was at a loss as to gender. I was also told that this image sets a state record for the earliest recorded example in the Bug Guide archives. They are not usually seen until May. I have seen them here for a couple of weeks but this was the first one I managed to get a usable shot of.

I luv these and yes I was surprised to see a photo now - Monarchs are much more common where I am - we use to call these tiger tails - Great Work !
