Description
The school where I work had a 'learning about animals' day at The Melbourne Zoo today. It was really fun! The snake was apparently a harmless Milk snake from Asia. Please zoom for a better look. A native Australian snake could not be used for this exercise as unfortunately all our Victorian snakes are poisonous!

What intense color! I love the scales and the way they catch the light and play around with hit. Snakes are such intriguing creatures, even when they're poisonous...though admittedly the poisonous ones are nicely intriguing as long as they're way the heck over there and not within biting range. I love the composition of this shot as well, the way in which bits and pieces of the overall reality are shown, but the overall reality remains wonderfully "out of frame." It's deliciously intimate that way, which is probably the point in terms of snake education. Marvelous work.
