Description

From the personal log of CSS Command Pilot Alexander Banachek. 21st of September 2441 - 13:04 UTC Commonwealth Starsaucer Moonlight Seven CASX-407 Earth now dominates the vista of the command dome. It's a sight that I have not seen in over ten years. Not since I took formal command of this starsaucer. Not since our subsequent exile. I try to hold back the emotions, the tide of memories and events that now press upon my thoughts. We can't take time for that now. We all have too much to do and very little time in which to do it. The Reds may have the luxury of their time bending technologies and the benefits of infinite choice therein, but Humanity is still caught in its rivers and rapids. Still, it's good to be home. I can even see the city of my birth faint in the darkness far to the north. This view, I take as a positive sign of things to come. In spite of the urgency of our purpose and the risks involved to all of us, I can not help but be taken by the moment. Curious thoughts for a rational man. I would estimate that they truly spring from the news Zoe gave me last week. It's held me in a strange euphoria and provided me with a remarkable clarity of thought. Aside from Phoebe, no one else yet knows about Zoe or Sagittarius Red. I will bring the Moonlight into a low orbit for a rendezvous with Yakkagala station at the top of Minas Anor, currently on the far side. I expect agents of Republica will be on the docking platform pressing for our arrest. Fortunately, my government is still holding to the Treaty of Minneapolis and insisting on safe passage for myself, Dr. Smith and the others. Of coarse, I 'have something' which they all obviously want. And I laugh when I imagine just how angry they will be when they learn what has transpired.
A posting to celebrate Earth Day 2010. I am dedicating this rendering to Chipka. A very accomplished and creative author of several short stories of science fiction posted here at Renderosity. A lot of the inspiration for this particular narrative I drew from his numerous writings. His gallery also boasts some very impressive works of photography from Prague, Chicago and other places. But it is always his deep and detailed narration that is the most captivating. I highly recommend his gallery for a visit.

WOW! What a pleasant surprise! Seeing that I need to catch up on your gallery is ONE thing, but seeing a dedication as I catch up! WOW! And what a gorgeous image! Earth Day came and went in Chicago: but that's often the case. This is the perfect way to mark the day...and what a narration, right down to a guy with a Czech name no less! Well...a "westernized" Czech name since the consonant blend is actually spelled rather than marked with a hachek over the "C." Anyway...WOW! I want to know more! You've built a wonderful sense of place and mystery and pulled me right in. The image is superb and I really like the atmospheric depth...the clouds look like they're actually floating above the water and land masses! This rocks! It's most definitely a favorite, for NUMEROUS reasons, and I'm flattered by the dedication! WOW! Thank you!
