Description

The question has been asked, how do tourists and local business people, move from sea level, up to the city level in front of the Chateau Frontenac hotel. You can walk up a set of stairs called the “breakneck stairs” or a hill called the “breakneck hill” of you can take the funicular. The funicular, also known as a funicular railway, incline, inclined railway, inclined plane, or cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles, on rails, moves them up and down a steep slope, the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalancing each other. Funicular information from Wikipedia. I have used other funiculars on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Taken with my old Pentax film camera, in the late 1980s, and later scanned. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

Really cool capture! I have taken the funicular in Pittsburgh, but missed this one in Quebec. It's a fun ride, and this one, like Pittsburgh's, seems to provide a nice view as you travel.

Wow, what a capture. I did take something similar in Japan. Never heard of that word, funicular, before. I just got educated. Aloha

Great shot, we have a number of these railways in the UK, one works on water power, it takes on water at the top and dumps it at the bottom, great ride.

Perfect POV and stunningly sharp focus and detail in this stellar shot, Dana! They call it a funicular because it's FUN-icular to ride. They had something similar, called "The Angel's Flight," in downtown Los Angeles many decades ago.

What a sight! Funicular railways are always fun, and I have so few chances to ride any of them, especially since I'm in Chicago now, and well...sheets of paper are more bumpy than Chicago's landscape! I love the clarity of this and the unexpected vertical shape of the cars. Brilliant!

I'm quite lazy so I would ride as well, besides it looks fun. Wonderful capture with a great POV.

at Garcia caves in Mexico they have some cable cars that is this steep. the caves are up on a cliff.when you sit down one is almost laying down, but when you reach the top it is a matter of almost falling over head first.I seen the ones at Niagara but I can not recall if I used it or not
