Description

This is one of many cannon that defended Quebec City from invasion from the sea. It sits atop the Citadelle or Citadel of Quebec City, Canada. The Citadelle was built atop Cap Diamant (Cape Diamond), adjoining the Plains of Abraham and hundreds of feet above the St. Lawrence River. It turns out that the diamonds that Cape Diamond was named for were actually quartz crystals. In addition to its use as a military installation, it has been the official residence of the Governor General of Canada since 1872 although he only stays there a few weeks a year. This star-shaped fortification was built between 1820 and 1831. The Citadelle has been the home station of the Royal 22e Régiment of the Canadian Forces since 1920. Taken with my old Pentax film camera, in the late 1980s, and later scanned. Some information from Wikipedia Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

There seems to be no limit to the ingenuity expended on killing machines. I've not seen one like this before - great shot to show such detail in black!

Wonderful. I wonder how easily it swiveled on those wheels considering it's weight.

Must have been worried about us revolutionaries to the south! And they had good reason at the time shortly after the War of 1812. Excellent photo and POV.

Wonderful POV used to display this beautiful pristine cannon, that looks so sharp and clean it looks like it was just manufactured, Dana! I notice it sits on wheels atop a circular platform that enables it to be rolled around 360-degrees.

What a machine! I love all of the details, those rivets, those cogs and gears, the teeth on those gears and the whole "heavy metal" look of this. Impressive as all get-out! I like the light as well, the way it's so bright, as a perfect contrast to those shadows. WOW! This is nicely seen, indeed!
