Description

Depicted here is dissolution; a dissolving of rock over the eons of time by wind and rain. Heavy winter rain usually delivers dense amounts of vegetative growth in the spring here in the Sonora desert. Then later in the year, during July and August when our heat reaches maximum temperatures, the vegetation becomes dry tender for the flash fires we have here caused by the late summer storms. Lightning along with the high winds will ignite the dried vegetation burning much of the growth. Afterwards, smoke will settle in the low canyons like clouds as you see here in the image. Much of the progress I've accomplished here and in other of my previous renders are attributed to those helpful guys: Ryan Archer, Frank Basinski, Seth, Martin Huisman, Walli, dandelO, Hetzen; and many others. And, thank goodness for Terragen 2 and the Planetside Forum.

Looks very good! Would like to see this with more sky (for composition) and brighter light. All in all, mincing forward!

One can't help drinking in the details of that rock surface- so much to examine; I just want to keep looking and telling myself that's TG- incredible realism. Well done Bob!

This is truely amazing Bob, so much detail and the lighting angel helps show it off. I have to totally agree with artgum, it does look like a photograph. Bravo!!!

Visually it looks real but physically along the lines of geomorphology it screams fake. I say that because not to be mean spirited but if the terrain was really battered by eroded forces we would have deep cut eroded slits and sedimentary fans all over the basin there. I wish those features existed within the program because it would make a world of difference.

You and terragen have done an excellent job...maybe a center of attention and more contrast in the composition would help? I read your comment about the crits in Renderosity not being too helpful, so I hope this is of some use. I like the direction of your work, and would like to see you push the realism even further.
