Description

On yesterdays Hummingbird post I commented about having gotten some Eastern Pondhawk pics. This is the first of three I will post. I see these every year but this is the first of this year. They fly close to the ground and commonly perch on grass and fallen leaves. The females are very good hunters. This is a mature male. The young males and the females are basically green with no blue. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Very nice shot. I was excited because in my stupidity, when I read pond hawk, I thought wow...Lee has shot another bird...woo hoo... :) I am not disappointed although, this is a great shot of a beautiful dragonfly/damsel...I am confused of which. An art student is drawing one of these for an art show. He was a little worried about the details on the body. I was able to pull up your gallery on this site and let him see first hand your great shots! He is now confident to continue on with his work.

Love the colors on this one. Amazing how many types there are. I am just starting to see a few now.

I don't know what sort we get in summer but they always stay at least 12-20 feet in the air and never settle. Wish I saw a few of these. I might have a chance to photograph a dragonfly. LOL Wonderful shot.
