Description
This started out as an experimental study on a sphere using the subsurface scattering shader. The octopus, bottle, scallop, sand bottom and foreground cardinal fish were modeled, mapped and textured in 3DSMax 2009. The seaweed, sea anemone, coral and rock meshes were conveniently created and imported from Vue 6 and mapped and textured in 3DSMax using the Unwrap UVW modifier. The background environment map texture came from CGTextures.Com and a vignette effect added using Photoshop CS3. The scene was rendered using Global Illumination in the Mental Ray rendering engine with multipasses set as render elements. Aside from compositing the multipasses and ambient occlusion a sparse floating plankton layer, color correction and signature was post-worked using Photoshop. A small animated GIF will be posted in the 3DSMax forum showing the progression in modeling the octopus for those who may be interested.

Could add little bubbles in the mix... It would become more realistic if you did... With that exception this is reallly great!!! Like the Octopus and the bottle...
