Description

A tourist mother is a good image for the Mom's Day, I suppose. The yellow building in the background is the Naprstek´s Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures. In front of her (but you can't see it) there's the Bethlehem Hussite chapel. The roots of Naprstek's Museum can be tracked back to the second half of the 19th century when Vojta Naprstek decided to establish an industrial museum in Prague. However, the museum gradually turned into an ethnographic one as Naprstek was an avid traveller as well as a major sponsor of other Czech travellers.

So very well captured by you, Sandra. Especially on 'mothers day'. Love the mood, the history and the atmosphere (and of course the caring of the mother)!

as I slowly go back and comment on this series, I selected this one because, in the midst of your marvelous captures of facades and their statuary, juxtapositions, interplays with nature, hidden chambers, etc etc, I remember this image of a mother & infant, quietly resting in (I assume) a typical Prague public street. The image has a relaxed quality, and yet---because of the low pov---it's almost (don't laugh) monumental. Like she's an icon in this scene. (Well, almost: I know she isn't, but the angle does give her a certain stature.) Also, all that black plays so well off the pastel hues of the buildings & their lighter grays & whites, and the almost purplish tone of the street. Nice composition too, with the lantern on one end and the building (in perspective) on the other, and the open sky above it all. The picture has a very relaxed feeling, and it's great to see this mother & child here, with the dominating buggy (pram, right?), right in the center of the pic: All that black really sets her apart. Oh, and I love the person walking towards her, only partly visible behind the pram: An intuitive capture. Relaxed & yet slightly monumental, and a very nice interlude in your wonderful Prague series.
