Life in flux. So, I was looking with passionate interest for people who were interested in making realistic materials - called shaders - for Poser mesh. That interest had shifted to making dynamic cloth for Poser, but has since moved further afield: to Blender3D. And creating scenes in Poser for Cycles.
Exciting times!!
How can it be the best things in life are free? Blender 2.63a with Cycles is just the most amazing programme, evah! How can this be free? Well, what I'm typing in: Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu 12.04) is also free. Solid, stable, never any issues, finds new devices without me having to do anything... how can this be free?
These are exciting times indeed, and they don't cost money. They cost time and imagination and dedication and a desire to learn. And they are free.
Gotta love it!

Very lovely indeed! The is very sexy and all, but I love even more the street scene itself. That stone work facade looks quite authentic, and I speak from experience of walking through the Old City of Jerusalem! This work is indeed top notch! DO keep it coming! dph PS: Check out my latest Emberglow installment in my gallery. It's not easy retelling a story.

Wow, you have outdone yourself with this one, Robyn. She seems to look back in hesitation of where she is going or what she's planning to do next. Playing the role of Lorethryn, is such a perfect one for her. A powerful image with the addition of mist and dust. Totally amazing!

Well, I think you are safely justified to be a bit obsessed considering the two sources of your inspiration for this work. One a wondrous masterpiece of a film based on a true classic novel of the genre, and two, a rare and exceptional artistic daughter of Nature. My feel is that you should continue to explore this story visually. How you might "make it better"? [ pasues a bit ] What I can offer is not really something better but an adjustment that might accentuate the strength of your narrative. Looking with a cameraman's eye, I'd enjoy seeing this in a wider horizontal frame, adding it's existing width once again with equal extentions in each direction. This would lend a cinematic feel to the overall image and accentuate the sense of Lorethryn running. I would set her in the right side third of the frame so that there "feels" like a great distance yet for her to go. To add an additional degree of drama to the scene I would bring Lorethryn physically closer to the viewer. There is no need to change anything about the scene or her pose, simply bring her across the street. This closer perspective will cause the viewer to be more engaged with the story and even feel a little of Lorethryn's tension. We can't see what she is running from, but being so close we could maybe "get" her anxiety. If you were to animate this scene, even a little, then you might even zoom in for a perspective from the waist up. This would draw us right into the scene. Play with different physical positioning yourself and save off a few low res' renders just to see how it changes your own perception of the moment in the story. So she's running towards the water then, to be safe? :-) It's good Robyn, it's really good. Terry

Good composition and the character turning around to face the camera works very well here. A last uncertain glimpse of her old life before perhaps escaping to a new and better one. Most excellent work!
