Description

Thanks for looking, and even more for leaving *seriously* any type of comment on how to make this better. This image was inspired - to the point of obsession - by two things: a film called Blade Runner I saw *ages* ago, and an image by bella_sometimes called A Place. Without her permission, really, I kind-of enlarged on her story by introducing a new character named Lorethryn. HeRaZa and my character Sandra has graciously agreed to play the bedevilled Lorethryn. --- She is Ithilwen's offsider, who decides to make a desperate run for it... leaving their doomed life for hopefully a better one. But the further she runs from the future into the past, the closer the threat feels. The cold village echoes her footfalls as if to announce her unwelcome presence. --- About the most remarkable aspect of rendering this image was the fact that I followed KobaltKween's advice and placed only two lights in the scene: a probe-based, linearised IBL and a simple Infinite at... 360% intensity! ADP001's free building in the background (available from his stuff in the free stuff section) and RDNA's Baker Street stuff in the foreground. I tried to use BB's fog shader in this scene but ended up using Traveler's less memory-intensive fog prop. And of course that's Neftis's Coiffure Celeste. The most interesting and time-consuming part of this project was converting the V3 Tail Gunner outfit (available at Daz) to V4. WW 2 had no problem with the jacket, but I decided I needed a bit more hands-on fine-tuning of shorts ... minimal amount of adjusting needed there in Blender. The boots, however, were the biggest challenge. 77 thousand polygons. That's a hefty figure. Blender finally *did* come to the party and helped me get the job done, but it was a full-day's work (when I should have been re-writing a shader)... :/

Very lovely indeed! The is very sexy and all, but I love even more the street scene itself. That stone work facade looks quite authentic, and I speak from experience of walking through the Old City of Jerusalem! This work is indeed top notch! DO keep it coming! dph PS: Check out my latest Emberglow installment in my gallery. It's not easy retelling a story.

Wow, you have outdone yourself with this one, Robyn. She seems to look back in hesitation of where she is going or what she's planning to do next. Playing the role of Lorethryn, is such a perfect one for her. A powerful image with the addition of mist and dust. Totally amazing!

Well, I think you are safely justified to be a bit obsessed considering the two sources of your inspiration for this work.  One a wondrous masterpiece of a film based on a true classic novel of the genre, and two, a rare and exceptional artistic daughter of Nature.  My feel is that you should continue to explore this story visually. How you might "make it better"?   [ pasues a bit ] What I can offer is not really something better but an adjustment that might accentuate the strength of your narrative. Looking with a cameraman's eye, I'd enjoy seeing this in a wider horizontal frame, adding it's existing width once again with equal extentions in each direction. This would lend a cinematic feel to the overall image and accentuate the sense of Lorethryn running.  I would set her in the right side third of the frame so that there "feels" like a great distance yet for her to go. To add an additional degree of drama to the scene I would bring Lorethryn physically closer to the viewer.  There is no need to change anything about the scene or her pose, simply bring her across the street.  This closer perspective will cause the viewer to be more engaged with the story and even feel a little of Lorethryn's tension.  We can't see what she is running from, but being so close we could maybe "get" her anxiety. If you were to animate this scene, even a little, then you might even zoom in for a perspective from the waist up.  This would draw us right into the scene. Play with different physical positioning yourself and save off a few low res' renders just to see how it changes your own perception of the moment in the story. So she's running towards the water then, to be safe?   :-) It's good Robyn, it's really good. Terry

Good composition and the character turning around to face the camera works very well here. A last uncertain glimpse of her old life before perhaps escaping to a new and better one. Most excellent work!
