Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Excellent! Great capture!

Capricorn eh? So is my sister. It is magnificent. The structures look so small an anonymous in silhouette. Overwhelmed by the sun's powers. And ruby and purple light are always hypnotic to my mind.

Like your perspective. I haven't thought much about sky closeness due to elevation above sea level. But now you've peaked my interest. I have some troubles getting great sunrises and sundowns here in Kansas because the eastern part of the state has continuous rolling hills that restrict long range vistas. Both Florida and the Chicago area are much flatter (billiard table-like) and you can see further along the horizontal plain... I like your blood-red sky above. Very eye-catching. Hmmmmmm, ok, now to think some more about sunrises and sunsets:)

A sailor's delight!! Beautiful shot, I don't think I've ever seen a sky like that!!

I love these twilight periods--and it sucks that a movie/book/pop-culture combo now bears the Twilight title; it ruins the true mystique of the very real and very beautiful periods of the day...but hey, if something needs to be ruined, leave it to Hollywood to do so, with "pretty" people no less! Anyway, enough rambling. It's late and I have to get up for work early, so I'll just say that I love this image. It's brooding and quite passionate in terms of color and the interplay between color and shadow. There's light here, but it doesn't strike me as light so much as simply color, and that's quite interesting; this reminds me of a painting, or of any other sort of way of turning reality into something more interesting. I love the fact that this image is about color and shadow and form rather than shapes and proportions and being "true to life." This is more true to the what life aspires to and I really dig that!

What gorgeous colors! This area isn't much for sunrises and sunsets, I'm sorry to say. Yours are MUCH more interesting! When the sun goes down in Seattle, it just gets dark. Very little spectacular-ness occurs in the in-between times.

superbe photo!!

You have achieved what nature accomplishes here with bush fires. The same intense reds, orange and yellows. The dark foreground captures the whole impact.

really stunning color, and the contrast between the deep red, the black skyline, and the lurking darkness is very poignant
