Description

More fin de siècle stone statues decorating the facade of a building in Old Town Square in Prague. I couldn't find anything about it, so you are free to imagine what you like. For example the woman on the right may be yelling: 'If you don't like my dinner, you can well go out, this isn't a restaurant!' Or she has just discovered that he begot an illegitimate brat under her nose, and now her children have to divide the inheritance... (it happened to a neighbor of mine). Of course, I'm open to suggestions! Thank you for your kind comments.

Hanka, on the right, is terribly upset that Bolek, on the left, went a bit overboard on Easter and...well...let's just say that the traditional Czech Easter custom got a bit out of hand! Hanka learned of Bolek's exuberant indiscretion from her friend, Marushka--a statue on another building--and well...things just got ugly! Bolek (having enjoyed a bit too much home-distilled Slivovice) has no memory of events, though he is haunted by questions of why there were red high-heeled shoes in the potato cellar, along with an egg and three bent spoons. Coincidentally, his own shoes (without high heels) were found floating in the Vltava river--two towns away. That's my take on things. I love this shot, and it's another duo of statues that I remember as fondly as I remember that disembodied, strangely Christ-like torso looming over pedestrians who pass through the doors of some enormous building I can't remember the name of. This is quite superb and it brings all of my favorite city back to me. Marvelous!

She is saying in Italian, "Smettere di sognare di queste due sorelle italiane e prestare attenzione a me, verme!" or in Czech, "Stop sní o těchto dvou italských sestry a věnovat pozornost ke mně, ty červ!" Oh, I'm having fun with the google translating software. I hope it says what I meant it to say, "Stop dreaming of those two Italian sisters and pay attention to me, you worm!"

Amazing, and I love your imagination about what might be going on! I love statues on buildings, I could walk around all day with my head in the air.

Personally - I don't see it as an argument at all, like everybody else - more like: 'did you notice the peeping Tom, over there?'... if some would be bothered to zoom in - then they would have noticed, that those two are women...probably bathing ? love the enchanting balcony but what are those weird little kennels doing up there ? That hunched shoulder and pointing finger look defensive and accusatory to me. It could be "Look over there. That's where you left your shoes." But it looks more like, "YOU!!! You're the one I saw at the last office party, talking to my boss, right before he chucked me out in the rain to starve, without a penny for my 8 children, invalid mother and lazy no good husband!" Excellent image and wonderfully emotional statues!

I'm not sure I'd like to have these two bickering constantly outside my window. LOL. Once again absolutely wonderful. Prague is a very interesting and elegant place. Thanks for showing it to us.
