Description

Chiara has been a servant to the della Vedra family for more than thirty years and was nurse to all four of the children, of whom only two now survive. When Claudia della Vedra moved to court to be a lady-in-waiting to the Duchess, Chiara went with her, elevated to the position of maid and confidante. She alone is privy to her mistress's secrets and accessory to her intrigues; if any young man wishes to win Claudia's favour, he must first make it past Donna Chiara's shrewd and calculating scrutiny.
