Description

This tree is growing in my mom's backyard..Last yr it didn't even bloom but getting a few on there now... Paw Paws go by Indiana Banana and Ky Banana. The trees reach 2-12 tall...The dark green leaves are simple and ovate.and the fruit is entire edible When it is green it is still not ripe...Wait until it turns yellow or light brown...The fruit is popular to make jams and jellies and can be put in a banana nut cake or fruit cake...The paw paw itself has a bad smell, similar to that of rotting meat...It also attracts blow flies and beetles... The tree itself was discovered in the year of 1541 by DeSoto and his exploration...It was a favorite dessert of President Washington and Thomas Jefferson... Being the teen that I was I just had to pull one off the tree and taste it.....Ye gads I wished I hadn't I didn't like the taste at all and I for one don't think I would like it in a cake...but some others might.....To each his own...and that is some of the history of the Paw Paw Tree.... I have to have a bone scan the 26th...I found another lump...It is about the size of a pea and is in the very same spot on my breast as it was in 94 and came back cancer.......My family Dr thinks it is just scar tissue & I hope that is all that it is too..........Please keep me in your prayers that this doesn't come back cancer...I am worried because it just happens to be in the original site..I can't seem to win.....For once I wish I could....Will have to get up early and I not a 5 am morning person....I am more like a 10am or 10:30am person....and when I can will lay in bed until 11:00 or 11:30.... I went and got my flowers Sat...haven't been able to sit them out due to the rain......I do wish it would quit raining for at least 3 days...I am so sick of rain....It just makes the day dull and dreary and wants to make one sleep the day away... Okay sorry about the novel..but thought I would include a lil bit about the origin of this tree and my latest news as well.... Many thanks for the comments and favs on my previous image "High Water" we are finally getting back to normal....but for 3 days was on the rise.........and now where it has receded makes the places it did cover look bad, and beaten.... All post work done in PSP9 Did one step fix photo...brightened the image adjusted the hue and saturation..sharpened the image...added 3 borders...a frame and the text Thank you all for any comment....and also thank you for those of you that favorite it as well Keep..Keep me in your thoughts and prayers..Have really been hurting a lot........and it feels different..like when I walk my back feels like someone walking on gravel...I don't know if my bones are crumbling or what but will find out on the cat scan.... I hope everyone has a good evening and a great day tomorrow.......just think it is hump day Wed...only 2 days to go until the weekend...LOL P.S. Went and got my flowers to plant Sat...they are still in the box waiting to be painted...Makes me so aggravated..and all due to rain because my flower bed is solid mud... Again thanks for any comments you leave and also thanks to you who will put this in their favs Hugs Blush aka Susan~

Everyone is putting out those good vibes for you and hoping your news will be good. I love your pawpaw photo with those fresh new leaves and the story you tell about it. This fruit grows in tropical Nth Australia as well and is quite popular. Many put it in a mixed fruit salad but my preference is to put in in the bin!!

Your photo and wonderful info on the paw paw tree takes me back to my childhood when my mom sang a song to me about the "paw paw patch". I was a young adult before I realized there really was a paw paw tree. Thanks for the memory of my mom and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hey, sugar! think up, not down. I know I have some pretty strange scar tissue that has caused me to go through CT scans before. Scary as it was BEFORE the scan, it was nothing at all when it was done. As for the rain, just think how much you'll miss it during the heat of summer. :-) And soon, the plants will be ready for the ground and by July they'll be so beautiful and heavy with color. You'll be out in the garden taking pictures to fill your gallery. I have never seen a pawpaw tree and had no idea they were used for any edible product or that they smelled so bad. Great photo and information!

What a wonderful photo of this fascinating tree. We've had snow here so all my pansies that I bought about three weeks ago are not looking too good. Still waiting for Spring. Take care of yourself. CC
