Description

I was going to crop this but then decided to keep it as is...because it is out of the dark into the light...Aside from loving this building with all its beauties, this would be a testament to my life the past year or so...It depicts exactly for me that I am moving from the dark (health issues etc.) into the light as things begin to improve now. There is still a long way to go just as in this image but I see light and know that I will make it... This is the second entrance to this marvelous building. Yes, those street lights are inside the building, giving it a sort of old world charm. Reflections have always been a source of amazement for me...its as tho there is a second world that we are seeing when we are allowed to and then it fades away until the next time. In nature it is a natural abstract, the other thing that totally fascinates me. In this town its hard to find things of beauty because its so owned by the drug dealers. But on this day I sort of took the beauty back from them and made it mine for that brief time that I was there. I hope this image gives you a moment of peace today. Generally speaking I do not like new architecture, I much prefer the beauty of the past, in particular things that have gargoyles, widows walks, things at least 100 years old if not much older. But three weeks ago I came here for my glasses fitting and I was amazed at the beauty that just seemed to leap out and embrace me It was a gray day, raining and snowing and I didn't take pictures inside because it was so busy, but vowed to take pictures when I returned. So I dedicate this image to all my friends here that have helped to lead me from the dark, who stood strong in their friendships and gave me hope. And for those who need to know that there is light, you just have to find it.I am reminded of my mothers manic depression and how it always felt dark and foreboding, so I would escape to the woods on our property to free myself from that darkness. I found the light, I hope that you can too! I am slowly getting to comments, if I haven't got to you yet, I will. Thanks for your visit, and for previous comments and favs.

Egad, after reading your commentary I wonder if I should begin uploading my immaculate, pristine, hi-tech, cutting edge fotos of modern buildings, sans gargoyles, that I have a slew of in my files. Loadz of cool geometry, lighting and shadows in this fine composition, Lynn.

Modern architecture is a fantastic thing, when done right! When done wrong it's just...well...wrong. This is an example of the right sort of modernity; there's the whole principle of form following function, but there's also an awareness of humanity. Form and function don't work in architecture unless the human is considered, and I'm glad that humans were considered in the construction of this marvel. You captured it perfectly, endowing it with a mood and a particular sense of life. That's harder to do than it seems and you've done it superbly here. It's great on a symbolic level as well...not only is it a passage from darkness to light, but it's also that strange and liberating twilight period when darkness becomes something else: a comfortable thing with its own colors and textures: things that darkness in and of itself cannot reveal, but with the presence of light, they come forward, grab your attention, and remind you that even though you still have steps to take, you can see them more clearly, and enjoy those moments. I love the way in which you've captured and conveyed that!

I'm glad you left the crop as it is here. Empty space can be such a place of holding, of waiting ... it's wonderful as a photographic composition, and as a commentary on life. Beautiful image!

I'm glad you didn't crop it! It is perfect for all the reasons you stated. I love the bold geometric shapes on the ceiling and the reflections, light and shadows on the floor and right wall. Wonderful lights! Have you been there at night? Are the lights lit? That would be beautiful to see too. Moving imagery in photo and words! There is a figure at the top of the stairs that seems to be clothed in darkness yet turned towards the light. Beautiful dedication! I rejoice in your better health and spirits!

I'm glad people agree about leaving the crop as it is, it truly does capture all the mystery around that light, as well as what these walkways do at their best: mix many types of light with many types of shadow. You know how much I love these shots, and it isn't just for the light itself--which is splendid--but for the sheen of the reflections too, like on the floor, in the wiggling reflections in the foreground and their beautiful restful blues; or the window-lights reflected on the wall in the back-right. And the touches these buildings give, like the pink light next to a ceiling fixture somewhere around center. Or the play of lighter blues with darker green-blues in the glass panes of the entrance, etc. The heavy dark on the right is a perfect frame to the light & reflections in the center. And your angle is perfect for this too: Off to the side, allowing the interplays to unfold in all their magical ways; and also capturing the many-meetings of space that these buildings create. I know how much you've been through, and how much you went through just to make these trips some days; and you know how much I hope for your complete healing & the return of peace & blooming in your life. But pieces like this show all the light in your soul, and the light that is part of your life even right now. And your sharing it with us is just terrific. Terrific piece, Lynn, and thanks for being in my gallery when I wasn't in yours (or anyone else's). I want to comment on other pieces in your gallery too, but right now I'm doing one image per gallery only for time, and I chose this because it's light in the middle of a tough time in your life, and your photographic eye is wonderful, keen, and exploring like a an open child. Wonderful shot. Lots of blessings your way, you still give us beauty even when you're struggling!
