Description

This image is dedicated to Fatima. (morganahope). She is a fantastic artist, and one of the kindest people I know. Her gallery is a pleasure to visit, and features beautiful works of art with gentle themes. Fatima shared many lovely memories with me about growing up in her wonderful country of Brazil. This is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever heard, and touched me the most. To be honest I was not sure if I would ever create another image. Because of Fatima's friendship, her stories, and kindness to me I felt it in my heart to do this for her. I hope everyone enjoys sharing her memories also. Hugs Dave Road To Paradise (For morganahope): When Fatima was a child she was always excited when her family would go visit her Grandparents. Her Grandmother was a sweet lady, and loved children. Her Dad Arlindo would get their horse "White", and hitch him to the wagon they used in the fields. Fatima and her dog "Lion" were the first in the wagon, so excited about their trip. Soon her sister Nasira and her Mom Nazira arrived and off they would go. It was a long trip, and the road seemed to go on forever, but that was okay because each trip was a magical one. They would set on bales of hay while Nazira told them wonderful stories the whole trip. She told them the history of their family and of their beautiful Brazil. She told them of the two cowboys that had died long ago, and were now buried along the road. After a long trip and many stories you could hear the whistle of a train to let you know the magical journey was almost over. Fatima remembers this as the road to paradise. Where there was no arguing or fighting, only a family sharing a trip and their love for each other. Credits: V.H. That's a wonderful story Dave ... your stories and illustrations are the best. Now I'm curious to know what happened to Arlindo, Nazira, the other kids and, let's not leave out, White and Lion. Well, I don't really need an answer, I'll just imagine it. Excellent work.

Wonderful Dedi and awesome image Dave. Is it my imagination or does Nazira have a mustache? I'm sure it must be the lighting...lol. So why where you thinking about not posting again? In my case it just takes too long to get the quality I want VS the amount of time I have to work on one. Same with you? Hope all's well in your world my friend. Bravo and best wishes from Dave :^)

It's great to see some more of your work again Dave. You certainly have kept your touch for recreating these wonderful memories. They all look so enthralled by Nazira's tale, including Lion - who has obviously gotten over the insult of being named after a cat. And, dare I ask, can see Dad tilting his head back a little bit to hear the odd verse here and there? Judging from the scenery I can well imagine someone thinking of this place as paradise.

This is lovely Dave! I'm not surprised the story inspired you it is a beautiful story of the simple but enduring joy of telling and listening to stories. It is such a defining characteristic of humanity. Throughout time people have gathered and storytellers have been revered. How lucky Fatima and Nasira were to have a mother who not only knew the importance of teaching them of their country and family history, but also was a talented weaver of stories. What could have been a long tedious journey ("Are we there yet?"), instead was a wonderful treat to be savored. And the sisters would have in their possession wonderful memories and knowledge as they grew older. Their mother has given them a gift which connects them to their land and history. Beautiful image! The expressions and poses are excellent! In Nazira's face I see the joy of a consummate storyteller. I imagine her stories were always told in a fresh new way, keeping the basic story but perhaps adding a word or description. Is she telling of the two cowboys here, as they ride past their graves? In Fatima's expression, I see total involvement and a anxiety to see how it's going to come out. Though she knows the ending, she has become so wrapped up in the story that she waits anxiously for it. Nasira has the smile of one who is anticipating a favorite part of the tale. Perhaps she is even saying the words in her head along with her mother. I think Arlindo is listening as well, as he silently encourages White along. Beautiful details! I love that the two sisters are holding hands and Fatima has her hand on Lion's head. Very nicely done!
