Description
This image is dedicated to Fatima. (morganahope). She is a fantastic artist, and one of the kindest people I know. Her gallery is a pleasure to visit, and features beautiful works of art with gentle themes. Fatima shared many lovely memories with me about growing up in her wonderful country of Brazil. This is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever heard, and touched me the most. To be honest I was not sure if I would ever create another image. Because of Fatima's friendship, her stories, and kindness to me I felt it in my heart to do this for her. I hope everyone enjoys sharing her memories also. Hugs
Dave
Road To Paradise (For morganahope): When Fatima was a child she was always excited when her family would go visit her Grandparents. Her Grandmother was a sweet lady, and loved children. Her Dad Arlindo would get their horse "White", and hitch him to the wagon they used in the fields. Fatima and her dog "Lion" were the first in the wagon, so excited about their trip. Soon her sister Nasira and her Mom Nazira arrived and off they would go. It was a long trip, and the road seemed to go on forever, but that was okay because each trip was a magical one. They would set on bales of hay while Nazira told them wonderful stories the whole trip. She told them the history of their family and of their beautiful Brazil. She told them of the two cowboys that had died long ago, and were now buried along the road. After a long trip and many stories you could hear the whistle of a train to let you know the magical journey was almost over. Fatima remembers this as the road to paradise. Where there was no arguing or fighting, only a family sharing a trip and their love for each other.

I am just SO happy to see a posting from you! The thought of you not posting another image ever, is very saddening to me. Yet I can understand partially why .. I suspect you thank each of us individually, and that alone must take days and days and days, because I think your thank you notes are individually written to each person. I cannot even think how long it takes you to do just that. I really believe your heart encompasses everyone you ever meet, you are such a good friend to all. What a wonderful interpretation of Fatima's childhood .. you've gathered in all the childhood emotions and love from that time in her life, and presented it back to us. You've chosen the most wonderful characters, created the most awesome scene, and I can experience the emotions and joy of her journey with her family to her beloved grandparents home. I don't know how you do it Dave, but you touch my heart with each beautiful image and story you present to us.

I'm sorry I got here so late, Dave, I always think I've responded when I see your images, because i have all these feelings at the time; and then I have to remind myself I haven't written a thing, and I feel like a jerk (lol). This one was particularly touching because of the almost mythic sense of the tale & of the wonderful memory of Fatima; and the feeling that this journey could've taken place outside of time...And your image---well you did it again: You caught the magic, love & wonder of a childhood moment; and you put in your details with your usual great love & care. (I know what it feels like to not want to do another image, I really do. I'm really glad you did, though. I hope you don't stop for good, as you're unique at this and you spread so much love. But take time & rejuvenate. I know these take everything you have, as you walk with them, carry them inside, speak to them, struggle to get the magic at their heart. I do understand they can empty you...I really understand that.) The background is beautiful, in part because it's very open, almost vast. From pictures I've seen of Brazilian countryside, it's as I'd expect it to look. And you have a set of rays coming from the sky, going right through the grass. They're faint, but they're there; and they make the scene feel as if the heavens are shining down on this family, which is what "Road to Paradise" is about. The two graves are placed lovingly & gently (I love how quietly they appear in the image). And you have a church in the distance, as if to say this tale is blessed by something spiritual (it could be any tradition, it's just such a sweet inclusion). And I also love the haze that settles in the mountains, making this like a dream. Technically, you angled the wagon in a way that isn't easy for an artist: I know it allows you to get a lot of detail, but it's a real challenge to work with: I'm really impressed at how easefully you captured it, it flows as right as rain. Love the ropes & barrel & metal hinges: One would think you've been in these wagons many times; but I know you construct pieces with things you've never been in, you use your rich imagination. Your lighting on them is luminous & gentle. (The ropes shine.) And your portrayal of each of the people is done in your usual loving way---from the part in the hair to the wonderful clothes & their natural folds & magical sheen. Nazira's clothes are applied with utter ease & naturalness; and while I've never seen Poser, I'm told that applying clothing is not easy, yet you always go out of your way to make it wholly natural, like you were posting a photograph rather than an arduous construction. The lighting, though realistic (ie, from one source), has your usual magic in it, as your lighting often does (shining from inside as well as out). And the whole scene---taking place in a little wagon---feels like a whole home is in that wagon, where a mother tells her children tales of long ago, and magic unfolds as she does. Finally, Arlindo feels like the force that protects them all, quiet, muscular & powerful. A very loving depiction Dave, with both wonderful details & a whole world of magic; and a great tribute to your friend and her wonderful memory; and a real treat for all of us who grew up in an urban environment, where wagon-rides were unheard of. More heart & genuine beauty from you, and more celebration of light, love & dear friendship. Wonderful in every way.
