My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Great history of the house and a very lovely shot.

Nice shot, looks like it could use a coat of paint.

Leave it to you to find a fascinating old window where ever you go. There are many claims that quite a few of the old post housing units are haunted. I don't see any ghostly faces in these windows but maybe the spirits were sleeping or eating lunch when we were there:) Excellent composition and compelling notes.

Wow, I know one of those famous people!! Wonderful shot and detail of those old windows.

I've heard of bmac62. He is quite famous but I have no idea who those other guys are. ;-= Excellent image, shows the wear and tear of time. The reflections in the window look a little ghostly.

HA! Awesome description Tara and this shot is great :-)

That's one of the nice things about some of these old buildings, they were built for stout and could often be given a new lease on life. I think we should ask bmac62 if he would give us a shot of himself in uniform at the time he was there?
durleybeachbum
OO yes! I fancy a pic of Bill in uniform! These windows look just like my house before the double glazing went in!

I love those old wooden windows in a brick wall; something very comforting about the whole thing. The peeling paint is a bonus! Beautiful shot!

Curious, I always thought Leavenworth was a prison. Cool capture of the apparent deterioration.

Here's another little tidbit of trivia about Fort Leavenworth.... I was born there! My dad was in the Army Air Corps before it became a separate branch, now known as the U. S. Air Force. I was born in the old post hospital building which still stands today. I have a photo of it I'll have to dig out. I love the way you've framed (pun intended) these windows, Tara, and of course the old wood and brick textures are wonderful!

Famous people - bmac62?!?!?... I like that!!! Great shot Hun! It does look somehow desolate at the moment.

My yes, they do look like they would give off a draft or two in their present condition. Great capture on your part, well seen and shot. : )

What a delicious shot. You've captured so many transitions in this image, and in the info you provided too. I happen to really dig a good transitional space--they're so weird, so slippery, so full of history that is nowhere near over. I think that's the thing I like most about transitional spaces. That's probably why Prague is so big a part of everything in my head-space...that city is one huge transitional space, continually transitioning; it is the perpetual change, always alive and never relegated to the pages of history as history implies an ending to something. I get the same feeling when I look at this picture. Your visual treatment of the subject is endlessly fascinating, especially in terms of the reflections in the windows and the brick work and the flaked and chipping paint! I really like this image for so many more reasons than I can say, but that's okay...I'll just sit back and enjoy this image.

Wonderful capture...love the bricks

Sad that places like this fall into disrepair but a good eye can catch beauty anywhere. Dana
