Description
The four sixty foot tall heads of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt (Theodore) carved on Mount Rushmore between 1927 and 1941.

Added: Thanks to Barry (Bazza) asking, the ropes in front of the face of Theodore Roosevelt are climbing ropes used by workmen who frequently climb over all four faces to maintain them. Although the granite is highly resistent to wear, small surface cracks are continuosly filled and repairs made as needed.

I'm one who has never seen them so up close and personal before, and it's VERY impressive! Thank you for bringing this monument into our living rooms (so to speak). You have raised my interest in this place from "oh, that's nice," to "Wow ... that's amazing!!" Excellent job!
