Description

Well, someone has to... Hello everyone - This little scene is not meant to be a fine piece of artwork; its purpose is to send a message. Give me a second. I have to get on my soapbox. OK. Unless you have been living somewhere with no outside contact for the last 5/6 weeks, you are fully aware of what's going on in the Gulf of Mexico. Perhaps you don't care about any of this. Well, for you I have nothing to say, so goodbye. But, if you do care and have had enough of this tyranny by big oil, and are able to, use your car less, walk more, ride a bike, ride a horse, car pool, use mass transit if possible, and, if you must use your car, try not to go over 55 mph. Turn off all those unnecessary lights, keep your air conditioner off unless absolutely necessary, and, even then, keep it at the lowest comfortable temperature settings. In other words, conserve as much energy as you are able to. We, and by that I mean all peoples of the earth, must cut our dependency on those nasty fossil fuels for our energy needs. And we all have a role to play. Maybe there will be a silver lining in this horrific cloud, and, that is, if enough of us are moved, angered enough by this disgusting event, we will force our respective governments to really accelerate clean, renewable energy. Call them, harass them, push them. And if they don't want to do the right thing, vote them out and put in a green representative. Remember they are supposed to be working for YOU. Just how many "accidents" like this have to happen before people wake up. Fossil fuels have seen their day. It is like the guy who carelessly cuts off one of his fingers with a buzz saw and then cuts off another one to see if it doesn't hurt as much. Really crazy. Really dumb. Thanks for stopping by and for bearing with me. Have a nice week.

I love the way you give your message Barb and I agree totally. Yep and I am out of my car ever so much more and I live in the desert where there is virtually nothing remotely close to mass transit. I take what you've said to heart and living it here is a real challenge. I love the challenge. Thank you for your post this day dear girl. Hugs.

thanks folks for your comments and for taking the time to read my message :) i personally have sold my car, take mass transit, replaced every light bulb with those energy saving twisty dealies, had my old refrigerator replaced with a far more energy efficient one and plan to do the same with my air conditioners (i live in an apartment, so these replacements are at the landlords expense, haha). i live in nyc and my electric bill during the winter is about $20/month, which is peanuts for this region. last summer my bill was about $70 for july and august, each. i will see if i can do better this summer.

Rock On! Love your character, love your message even more. We have the technlogy. The problem (as always) is the greed of those in control of the means to put it to use.

I love the pic, I hear your rant, but I have reached the point where I think let's have done with it! and just poison ourselves half extinct as a species! Then maybe what few survive will wake up. Seems like it always takes something horribly extreme before we learn or anything at all to fix a problem. Like how many have to die at a intersection before they put up a stoplight? I don't think one horrible spill in the gulf is enough for most folks. Ride your soapbox all you want, but until people turn on their tap and crude comes oozing out it will continue to be same as it ever was. We already have seen and been told the meaning and the dangers of melting ice caps, changes to the jet streams, acid rain..., and well I could sit here and list warning sign after warning sign after warning sign, including what we are seeing happening to people in general with apathy, hate, distrust, towards each others, and their general lack of belief in most anything that smacks of people having to hold themselves accountable to anything other then their own petty wants and whims. It is the burned hand that learns, if it learns at all.

oh so true words but I fear human nature is as said in these wise native american words: When the last tree has been cut down, the last river has been polluted and the last fish has been caught -- only then do you realize that money can't buy everything!

Aplausos mil totally agree with you my friend and I am sad to see the fury of greed destroying the world and the future. You see what really happens with ethanol in Brazil. For its production are killing the native population of Amazonia, and an unprecedented desvatação of their forest, causing irreparable environmental damage. Avatar The film was made on top of what's happening here on Amazon. All for greed and domination that can not find meaning. But these things are hidden, like the Gulf disaster, certainly soon Farame as if they had not. Congratulations on your conscience and real alert and bright image symbolic. Applause one thousand

wonderful message!!! Oil era is at its end that's for sure!! too expensive politically and ecologically. We can do the difference but I'm afraid that the "big oil" is also the "big green", they diversified their business more than 20 years ago. :-((( !!! in fact the BP advertised itself as "beyond petroleum"!
