Description

My journey from Kansas to Washington State continues... After leaving the state of South Dakota and driving through the north east corner of Wyoming, I drove into south eastern Montana and found myself passing through Crow Agency, Montana and paralleling the Little Big Horn River. My next stop was the Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument...a national memorial honoring all Americans. Pictured above are the leaders of the two warring parties at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, June 25th and 26th, 1876. Lt. Colonel George Custer (had been a Brigadier General earlier in the Civil War) and Sitting Bull, Chief of the the allied Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne. For those who are interested in a very short wiki on the battlefield, Click Here Bill:) "The Man Who Sculpted A Mountain" thumb_2066544.jpg

In the 1960s I used to see bumper stickers in that area "Custer died for your sins." The company I worked for found a little oil east of Lodge Grass, about 20 miles or so south of the battlefield.

Cool capture of the two warring factions, Bill. The antagonists look like cardboard cutouts. And, I didn't know George Custer was a Brigadier General in the Civil War. Several movies have been made about Custer, Sitting Bull and the massacre at Little Big Horn. Finally, Kansas in contrast to Washington State could be considered a clash of cultures also.

Why did I think that Custer was a blond? Were there any Gatling guns on display? Jealous that I’ve not made this trip myself. Informative collage. Dana

That museum must be a fascinating place. I love the reflections of course, especially in the glass over the Custer side. Great presentation!

As a young boy I saw Errol Flynn in Custers Last Stand and I suppose most people accept that as pretty much accurate. In later life I read accounts, some by Native Americans who where there. Then I saw a programme about an archeological dig at Little Big Horn ( permitted by the Authorities following a fire.)From all of this the only 2 facts in the movie where 1.How the 7th Cavalry got "Garry Owen" for a marching song and 2. The 7th Cavalry got whooped by better soldiers. This is a great capture Bill, very much my idea of interesting, and a place I would love to visit.
