Description

Yesterday's objective for four of us photograpers was a visit to Snoqualmie Falls. The falls are 268 feet high or ten stories taller than Niagara Falls. It is located 30 miles east of Seattle. My objective here is to picture both the falls and the rock basin surrounding them:) Visitors to Snoqualmie Falls Park may be surprised to find they are within an operating energy facility. The hydroelectric project contains two power-generating plants. Both are a century or more old and both are still generating clean, renewable energy for Northwest homes and businesses. The plants are undergoing modernization and when finished in 2013, the project will have the capacity to generate 54 megawatts of electricity - enough to power 40,000 homes. The most interesting thing to me about the power plant is that it's located 270 feet underground, tunneled out in solid rock in 1898! I'd love to go down in there and see what it's like. This is a gorgeous shot of the falls! That is a LOT of water. There's often half that amount, and late in the summer maybe a quarter the flow. It's hard to get a good shot of the falls and the surrounding rock without getting blown highlights or pitch black areas. VERY nicely done!

An excellent view of a beautiful place, Bill! I think I can see where Tara took that photo I just looked at. This is a fascinating place, and I hope to visit it again someday! Interesting details about the power plant - you'd never know from the photos I've seen. Great pohotography, Bill!

Yes, it looks like the spring runoff is in full flow; the river level looks higher too. So very beautiful, and I can almost hear that powerful roar!

Keen. Note how the falling water breaks into festoons as it plunges.
