Description
I've been working on this a bit at a time since last weekend. It's finally finished :)
Originally the background was more visible, but I liked how the darkness really enhanced the girl & the action taking place in the scene.
In the book I'm currently reading there is a sentient artifact called the crystal shard. It's an evil artifact, but I liked how the writer detailed the relationship between the artifact and it's wielder. That is what inspired this image.
In this scene, the mistress, a powerful magic user courts the Blade... a sword with a soul. the rights bond one to the other if they are worthy.

Well the sword definitely renders well in scene. I like the after effects surrounding it that really bring it to life. :) I agree that the background being darker really brings it to life and could that book you are reading be from R.A. Salvatore? =P

An absolutely magical scene! Love the magic effect around that gorgeous blade. The character is lovely and you're right, the darkness does enhance the scene! Love the story that goes with it. One of my favorite short stories (The Woman In Scarlet by Tanith Lee) involved such a bond between a male "sword's man" and a sentient sword with a female soul.
