Description

I did a similar image for the recent Vue Challenge, "Down By the Water" and it really got me thinking about the oil spill in the gulf. I saw a picture of an oil soaked pelican that just broke my heart, so here is my version of this horrible event. Thanks to KenG for the brown pelican. If anyone wants to help out, I've posted some handy links on my website, Orinoor.com, if you're interested.

A very timely image and very well done. I shudder to think what the potential cost will be from this spill in terms of ecosystem damage and livelihoods destroyed. The damage that will be done to the migratory bird populations alone could be tremendous. And after years of careful management to bring them back from the brink of extinction, I wonder if this will bring the ultimate end of the Whooping Crane?

beautiful work on this image. this event has really bent me out of shape. i do hope that this might be the turning point in human history of allowing big business to destroy the earth's environments for the sake of profit. as consumers we must educate ourselves about various products and we must think about the consequences caused by our purchases. also we all must learn to conserve energy. right here right now. those that argue that forcing restrictions on such companies as BP is bad for the economy. but one should always point out with a destroyed environment there is no economy. actually, humans remind me of those aliens in Independence Day--going to a planet for needed resources and when they had stripped the planet clean they would move on to another planet.

It's tragic. Goldie has a point too. The more choices people make to use products that don't involve oil is ultimately the only way. Most large companies aren't going to take the lead. BP has a fairly extensive alternative enery division. I think now might be a good time for them to shift their focus there. Oil being a major and almost sole energy source/commodity gives too much power to the !@#$*&^% that sit on it. I want to ditch the car and find something else. Will they make it affordable? Hopefully soon.

Very nice tribute to the suffering animals and environment. In this render you've (again) managed to get the bird look quite "non-rendered" (apart from a little sharp polys on the neck). Well done. 5*

The ominous clouds portend a bad future as well. Disaster in every direction that the eye can see. Excellent work, simply and perfectly created and rendered. I would say "beautiful" if it didn't portray such a disaster so expertly. The whole mess just makes my blood boil.

A wonderful image at first glance, but further inspection reveals the heartbreaking reality that is still happening in and around the Gulf. Thank you for sharing this render.
