Description
This week sees the last of the soccer teams arriving in South Africa for the FIFA Soccer World Cup 2010!!! The opening ceremony and first matches will be on Friday, June 11th! Our country has been in a frenzy of preparation for years but seems to be as ready as can be! It is a historical event as this is the first time that Africa hosts this event that is only beaten in size by the Summer Olympic Games!!! It certainly is a proud time for us in South Africa and we all hope that the event will be enjoyable and memorable for both players and visitors alike.

An obscene amount of work went into this image! I shot the main photo more than a year ago, desaturated it and then used selective coloring on the waving SA flag! The flags I shot at the office where one of the divisions have a huge board with all the flags in the same size on it. I then painstakingly cut them out and pasted them in rows the way I used them. I had to lower the opacity to eliminate some glare from the flash! The ball in the corner is a replica of the official match balls which I also photographed in the same division at my office! (We have a competition at work to see which division can decorate their space the best with all the Soccer World Cup goodies!!)

Good heavens, a veritable tour de force in developing this outstanding dedication to soccer teams worldwide, Carin! What a labor of love! Magnificent color, clarity, composition, contrast....the whole nine yards in this one! Incidentally, the USA isn't big on soccer as a sport, concentrating more on baseball, football and basketball.

excellent Carin .. Soccer is the only sport I really like ..my son used to play it and was on a rep team for Toronto.... FIFA is always cool to watch

Well done Carin! We are being allowed to leave work early to view the opening or stay and watch it in the canteen. The 'gees' is definitely rising as the day approaches. I am snowed under at work at the moment (left at 12:30 am last night) so not getting to RR much at all. Busy with a collage for the day though! Clive
