Description

This week sees the last of the soccer teams arriving in South Africa for the FIFA Soccer World Cup 2010!!! The opening ceremony and first matches will be on Friday, June 11th! Our country has been in a frenzy of preparation for years but seems to be as ready as can be! It is a historical event as this is the first time that Africa hosts this event that is only beaten in size by the Summer Olympic Games!!! It certainly is a proud time for us in South Africa and we all hope that the event will be enjoyable and memorable for both players and visitors alike. We welcome: ALGERIA; ARGENTINA; AUSTRALIA; BRAZIL; CAMEROON; CHILE; DENMARK; ENGLAND; FRANCE; GERMANY; GHANA; GREECE; HONDURAS; ITALY; IVORY COAST; JAPAN; MEXICO; NETHERLANDS; NEW ZEALAND; NIGERIA; NORTH KOREA; PARAGUAY; PORTUGAL; SERBIA; SLOVAKIA; SLOVENIA; SOUTH KOREA; SPAIN; SWITZERLAND; URUGUAY; UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Thank you for visiting and for your kind comments and favs on my previous upload "Just Another Cape Town View"! Stay well. Hugs Carin xx An obscene amount of work went into this image! I shot the main photo more than a year ago, desaturated it and then used selective coloring on the waving SA flag! The flags I shot at the office where one of the divisions have a huge board with all the flags in the same size on it. I then painstakingly cut them out and pasted them in rows the way I used them. I had to lower the opacity to eliminate some glare from the flash! The ball in the corner is a replica of the official match balls which I also photographed in the same division at my office! (We have a competition at work to see which division can decorate their space the best with all the Soccer World Cup goodies!!) Enjoy!

What a creation! What strikes me is the tv tower in the larger photographic background. Well, I think it's a tv tower. It's nicely high-tech and looks a wee bit like an interplanetary spaceship. So naturally, I'd like that! The layout is perfect, as is the whole execution: the fact that you collaged YOUR OWN stuff into one piece is not surprising. Your stuff's good, you know, but I'm impressed with the fact that "professionals" usually doing book covers and such, always resort to stock images rather than their own stuff. To be fair, they're probably not photographers so much as layout artists, but still, I love the fact that you went wandering around taking pictures of things and putting them all together here. And yeah, I can also feel South Africa's excitement. Chicago's hockey team, the Blackhawks, just won the Stanley Cup for the first time in...dog's years and Chicago has been up in a playful riot for a few days now. Soccer (football) isn't that huge a deal here, but we've been hearing quite a bit about South Africa, which is ultimately hilarious as people are now driven to look at maps (probably for the first time in...well...in dog's years.) Unrelated, did you ever notice how the continent of Africa is shaped something like a dog's head, with South Africa as the nose? I've always liked that fact. It has nothing to do with this wonderful collage, but there you have it. As for this piece of work! You do this so incredibly well; not surprising, but still, it's deliciously professional.
