Adult
The wing ribs are recognized and distinctly black in males and females are brown (often larger than males). The tips of the wings are slightly scaly, especially in females. The wings tend to become transparent as they age increases. The ribs at the base of the wings, both front and rear are reminiscent of the "wings reduced.
The wingspan ranges from 6 to 7.5 cm
Adults can take large amounts of liquid in the moist soil.
Eggs
The eggs are found between June and July, in clusters located on the upper leaves.

Distribution and habitat

It is a Palearctic species, widespread throughout central and southern Europe, Africa, Mediterranean and temperate Asia to reach the coasts of Korea and Japan.
Conservation
It is considered threatened in the Netherlands, Luxembourg vulnerable (which is probably extinct) and Norway. Is protected by Austria and Luxembourg. Not present in the British Isles, is receding gradually from northern France.
It is well distributed throughout the peninsula and Sicily, is absent in Sardinia and Corsica
