The Sisters of the Pearl were a backstabbing, catty, contentious lot. Everyone knew that. Getting ahead in the church was never guaranteed. The most beautiful and the most lusty were not always the most prized. Neither were the most brilliant or the most devout. Dedicated worship of Aphrodite meant only that you might not incur Her wrath and end up the next Medusa. But even that was a crapshoot.

So, one might wonder what would attract so many young women to the service of a Church that guaranteed nothing and might take everything at a whim. The answer; you set your own hours, you’re free to do as you please, and you get to throw around some really cool magics. And you have equally gorgeous and tantalizing guardians to watch your backside in a fight. You get to hang with lots of beautiful people, and you might even get paid for having fun.

Certainly, part of that filled out the list of reasons that Ellaya Lotts joined the Sisters of the Pearl at the age of 14. Once trained as an Erotic, a Cleric, and a Mystic, she entered the service of the church in New Calladon. There, she was assigned to the temple as a Mystic, and her abilities allowed her to soon pick her own tasks. She began to work as a companion, a high priced prostitute whose earnings mostly went to the church. As long as she kept the cash coming in, she was left alone to do more or less as she pleased. What she pleased, unlike most of the Sisters of the Pearl, was access to the major libraries and centers of learning in the kingdom. By happenstance, she befriended a young stripper recently arrived from Pawldur. That girl, Cherri by name, worked at Night Tracks, a club on the south side. In her regular visits to her friend, she soon gained a new clientele, the strippers and prostitutes that worked Night Tracks, supplying them with a little extra good looks, a bit larger bust, a quick hair-do, or magically applied makeup. It wasn’t until the headliner at Night Tracks asked her to join a crazy adventure that she saw where all this had been leading all along.
