Description

Hi, I heard this little chap today calling for his parents in our back garden, and rather loudly I might add. A bit bedraggled and bald I think he's a fledgling Jackdaw. His parents weren't far away, one was up on the guttering with a beak full of grubs waiting for me and my zoom lens to retreat; which I did quite quickly becuase those beaks look big and nasty and I didn't want an angry mother flying my way! (saw "the birds's" at an early age and the fear of being dive bommed by a bird has stayed with me!!) Have a great weekend Love Tracey

Wow...I don't believe we have Jackdaws over here in New Hampshire, but they look like a formidable bird. Do their eyes stay that color? I don't think I have ever seen a bird with such beautiful blue eyes!!! Great shot!

That's definitely a Jackdaw...and you can tell by those typically Jackdaw-good-looks! They're not common in North America, in fact I don't think they live here at all. I could be wrong, but I've never seen one in the Midwestern USA. We have their cousins, however, but nothing with eyes as startlingly bright, or that sort of Jackdaw swagger these critters have. This is a marvelous shot, most definitely one that rewards multiple viewings.

Perhaps they are like crows who will feed their young on the ground for up to 3 weeks while they wait for them to grow strong and fly. Great shot!
