I've always considered shots like this to be difficult 1) because while it's easy to get their rich arrays, it's hard to get them with music, expression, flow, etc; and 2) because, from enough of a distance, the visual information can seem a bit stagnant because of the repetition. That's always seemed the challenges to my eye, long before I ever had a camera. But no stagnance here; and a full rich array; and the motion, to my eye, is wholly musical. (And that word's comin' from a musician!) The sweep from the left hand to the right, of the upper walkway as it moves across the frame and then comes forward to greet us on the right, is fine photographic music. The inclusion of the upper rafters & lower stairs, of the piers on both sides of the shot, and of the strong lights & shadows throughout, are also fine music. And you've included just enough of the reflections to give it the play of light & illusion that these enclosed gardens have (if one looks closely enough). A very active shot, with sweep and much visual music, though that's no surprise given the quality of your work, Richard. And as a dedi for Dave, it's beautiful, since Dave is like these gardens, a forest full of natural energies, strength & wonderful music. And of course, he's a great friend to so many people here. Happy Birthday again, Dave! And a beautiful image from you, Richard. I should've known that you'd capture an interior like this with such drama & music. Full size, this thing is a movement from a symphony.
