A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

Wonderful close up. Almost makes me think this is edible.

Terrific effects in this abstract of the Stargazer lilies, Melinda, but they do look like big chunks of watermelon with filaments or wicks growing out on top.

Oh Melinda thank you so much for this wonderful dedication. This is exceptional photography. I can smell its fragrance already. The pink in this is so beautiful. My wife laughs at me because when I smell stargazers up close I always get the pollen on my nose. Again thank you so much. You are so sweet.

Interesting image. Beautiful! Almost ominous (and I mean that in a good way.) I'm reminded of an alien landscape when I see this--not necessarily a foreign planet sort of thing, but something organic and with a propensity to exude drops of digestive acid to break down anything that's landed on that surface. Of course, when I looked at the thumbnail, I was reminded of strawberries. And all of that is what I like about this image. It's something distinct, and is a part of something that has nothing to do with the wild journeys of the mind it inspires, and yet the mind's wanderings are so intimate to this image that it actually becomes unpleasant and difficult to separate them. For me, great art does just this sort of thing; it lets you see something, and it reflects something of your own interior/psychic space. Irises are comforting to some, just as digestive-acid-exuding organisms are comforting for me (unless I'm the one they're digesting, then that's an all-together different story!) I also love the kind of watermelon-ish/strawberry colors, and the implications of strawberry seeds, when you see only the thumbnail of this image. That it's actually Iris details makes it all the more compelling, since you've captured the essential Iris-ness of your subject, but framed what you saw/captured in such a way as to open up all sorts of possibilities. Yeah, I love stuff like this! It's like getting free fun stuff, just because.
