“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

I've seen gulls come down and take handouts from people in flight while the ferry was moving...handouts from the hand. They have gotten very good at shadowing the movements of the ferries (amazing what food training can do, isn't it?) I like this in mono, it's very dramatic!
helanker
It just needs a string, than it would look like it is pulling the boat :-D! Beautiful capture though :)
bazza
Very lovely capture Bill, that bird can really go, lol.

I think Helle and I are sharing the same brain. I looked for a little cable to see if the gull was actually pulling the ferry! Gulls are pretty strong you know! And yeah, they're pretty fast too! I really like this capture, by the way, the stark monochrome is deliciously moody. I love the shapes, the porthole window thingies, and those nicely wispy clouds. All in all, this is an excellent shot! Great POV too.

Great shot. Sometimes you need to wash you clothes after the seagulls flying above you. Best to stay inside with them flying overhead.

TERRIFIC SHOT AND PERFECT POSTWORK!
drace68
Dramatic in b&w.

See, I was going to ask how much you paid the gull to pose like that! Great shot, and I love that you chose a monochrome theme for this. Those clouds over the wheelhouse are spectacular, and the gull looks almost like it's glowing! Fantastic work, Bill!
goodoleboy
Terrific POV and lighting effects in what looks like something right out a black and white science fiction movie such as Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Bill. Not exactly the Good Ship Lollypop.
TwoPynts
