Description

The Ross had just begun to recover from the first mine when, at 01:55 of October 19th 1944, she struck a second mine and the list (from the first mine damage) increased to 14 degrees. Captain Benjamin Coe ordered the jettisoning of all non-essential equipment and gradually the list stopped. The fleet tug AT-83 Chickasaw approached and gave much appreciated aid and comfort to the DD563 USS Ross and her crew. Capt. Coe had prayed for guidance from The Lord and believed that they would somehow survive this ordeal and the many other challenges that faced him and the crew in the following months at The Battle of Leyte Gulf. The Ross never had another causality under Benjamin Coe's command. Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful. I wonder if going full speed ahead would keep it a float longer... I wonder what the titanic did after the hit... if they just sat there... I would think but keeping it moving, you'd stay afloat - maybe - hope I never have to find out - lol

Nice jog on the flames. Water looks great. Those old Fletcher class destroyers could really take some punishment, unlike modern ships. Thanks for the reminder from Leyte Gulf - a long time ago, but should be remembered for the imensity of that struggle. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to remake the same tragic mistakes. Thanks for Romans 12:12. Keep up the good work - looking foreward to your next post. :)
